"Nice" shifter for a 4L80e swap
I'm looking for recommendations for a shifter for a 4L80e swap (it currently has a T5 in it if that matters, I have a decent stock shifter in my parts car but I don't know that I want to dot that).
What do I mean by "nice":
- it's sort of a race application but it will see a lot of street time, function is the most important but I'm trying to stay away from something clunky and unrefined
- _I think_ I want a rachet shifter (I want to make the same action shifting through the gears, although I've never owned a pro stick or anything like that the "push it forward, pull the lever, push it forward..." different actions kind of turns me off.
I like the TCI street fighter for the new mustang, but it is completely different then the normal street fighter and uses the mustang's linkage, lighting and other parts and has a 5 speed gate, so I've been told that it will be next to impossible to adapt it to anything else:

The Quicksilver is OK, but not thrilled with the chrome bezel and would probably put a different **** on it if I was to do that.
I don't like things like the Megashifter and some of the ones are pretty old school, I either want clean and modern or race functional...
Any ideas? What do you guys like? I guess that most 3 speed shifters are available for 4 speed and they shouldn't be a problem to make work...

While I'm at it, maybe someone can point me at a shop for some tranny and chassis work in MD:

I like this brand. Comes in different configurations, front cable, rear cable, 2, 3, or 4 speed.

Looks like you linked to the II but showed a pic of the I. Does that have the same action for shifting into all the forward gears or is it like a pro stick type thing? what does the thing at the top do?

I picked up a Hurst quarter stick for my 4l80e swap. They don't make them for 4 speeds anymore but I lucked out and picked one up off of craigslist in Texas.

While I love the look of the pistol grip quarter stick (it would be just right for what i'm looking for), the push forward, pull lever and push forward, reliease lever, relax stick and push forward again shift pattern really bothers me. I'm not sure I get the reason for it and I could see at times missing a shift because of it. I don't get why it can't be push forward without the lever for all the forward gears and just use the lever to get into reverse, park and to pull it all the way back...
Why did they quit making the 4 speed???

The turboaction cheetah and the similar winters shifter are great functioning shifters, but man are they cheezy and dated looking... No go there...

Re: "Nice" shifter for a 4L80e swap
From the video I saw it works like a slap shifter kinda when in low gear. You just smack it forward until you hit neutral, no pulling on the handle at all. You have to pull the front handle to shift down to low gears and out of park. The button on top is to shift from reverse to neutral or vice versa, you have to pull the front handle then push down with your thumb on the top button. Its their way of making a reverse lockout, but you only need one hand to operate it.
The shifter in the pic is for a rear cable mount, the front cable mounted version is the same main body, just the handle is turned 180 deg.
I hope my explanation makes sense, I tried to find the video of one being demonstrated but its gone.

I dont like the quiksilver shifter. But the Megashifter and z gate i love. the ratchet is a no brain shifting method and its not too bad to pull up on a lever to switch from P to R to D etc.

Re: "Nice" shifter for a 4L80e swap
If you notice the address doesn't change when you click on the other shifters... yea, the fast gate probably won't work unless I wanted to make a new handle and stuff for it (I haven't ruled that out if I find a shifter that I really like the operation of at a good price)
