the source of my leak
the source of my leak
700r4 4speed trans has been leaking bad.
It drips from the bell housing cover drain hole and the bottom passenger side bolt that holds up the housing.
Excuse my lack of knowledge on this part. When I take the cover off the converter is completely dry(so it couldnt be the front seal?), but the plate across from it is wet all around the edge on by the bolts as well.

Is this the trans pump seal leaking? Ive replaced the pan gasket and filter and checked the cooling lines and dipstick tube seal, which were good

Re: the source of my leak
Mine does something very similar - drips from the front pan rail, and is wet a little way above the pan rail, but not all the way to the front seal - so I reckon it's not the seal.
It used to leak heaps from many spots. Changed the gasket a couple of times, slowed it down by about half for maybe a month-ish, but always came back. Pulled the pan again, and beat all the bolt holes flat - were all bent upwards. This got rid of all but the front leak where the rail is really thin, but permanently slowed it down.
Much later I got a new pan which almost eliminated it - but it still weeps very slowly. Decided I could live with it.

Re: the source of my leak
I dont believe mine to be leaking from the pan rail, and I dont know if it would hurt to try and bend the pan rail a bit?
I believe it to be leaking from the part thats between the pan and the converter, where the red line is. I dont know the technical name sorry

Re: the source of my leak
looks like the transmission pump gasket may be seeping..i would also change the input shaft seal on the pump as well while your there.there is also a little o-ring at the tip of the input shaft seal.change that too..........and be carefule putting the pump back in place as to you dont want to damage the teflon seals on the input shaft......

Re: the source of my leak
Most of the time when the front pump is leaking its because of the pump bushing is worn
