TH700R4, are they all the same lenght?

I did put a Raptor TH700R4 in my 1986 TA, it replaced the original one. I did use the tailshaft housing from the old one.

I did feel a little shaking at back (the car is comming from a total restoration so it could be something elsa) and it get worse the faster I drive.

My brother and his neighbour (a mecanic) looked under the car (Transmission in Park and handbrake on) and the told me that the shaft was going up and down (the front part of it). They where thinking of if the driveshaft was to short.

Its the stock driveshaft so I dont think thats likely exept if the transmission is a little bit shorter (and I doubt that).

When I looked at it few days later I saw no movement (and my brother did not to) but the car keeps on shaking.

So my question is, cold it be that the axle in the transmission is shorter in the new transmission than in the old one?

No they are all the same length (except ones for 4WD).

Sounds like the bushing in your "old" extension housing may need to be replaced.

Re: TH700R4, are they all the same lenght?

it is possible for the output shaft in the new one to be shorter than the old one if the new one was assembled with a 4X4 output shaft. if this had happened, you would be able to see the difference with the tail housing off. also check the bushing in the tailhousing as it might be worn.

i take way to long to type...lol

That might be it, the tailshaft housing that came with the transmission was not from a f-body (even though I told them it was going in 86 TransAm.

So a longer driveshaft should probably fix the problem (have to have one made anyway because of the 9 inch that is supposed to go there).

Thanks a lot!
