What are the best rear end gears to put in my 1992 RS Camaro 5.0? It's going to be a daily Driver BTW. It's only got the L03 5.0 V8 in it, and I want to make the most of the 255lbs tq I have. I want to get a good launch, but be able to afford fuel and such. Suggestion, comments, usefull tid bits, info anyone?

3:42 would be decent and still not affect milage too much. And since its a common stock ratio, you may be able to find a used set or a complete rear to swap in, maybe with better brakes too.
remember you have to change the speedo gears in the trans after you do this

I went from 273 to 342 and am pretty happy ,though I would'nt mind 373's.

I wouldn't mind swapping out the whole rear end. I got discs in the front but rusty drums in the rear. I have a guy who can do the trans. stuff.

swapping the 4th gen 98-02 rear disc brakes to a drum axle is pretty simple, i ahve done it to both my cars. only snag is the custom parking brakes cables...
i went form 2:73's to 3:73's in my 86 years ago and it was a little too much IMHO. Have 370's now in the 9" and wish i had gone with something a bit lower numerically.

I have heard good things about 3:42s. Taking averything into consideration I'll prob get those.
86TA. Did you mean, swapping from drum axle to 4th gen disc?

meant swapping just the 4th gen (98-02) disc brake setup to the stock 3rd gen drum axle. Its really quite simple, a little cutting and drill out 4 holes. Have to pull the axle shafts out first of course... but the 4th gen axle itself will swap in too, it is wider though.
