so im not sure if this is the proper forum for this post. but i was wondering if anyone could offer any info. i am interested in gaining positraction in my 1984 Camaro Z28, its a stock peg leg. as far as i know i could just replace the whole entire rear end, purchase a powertrax unit, or a detroit locker (i believe manufactured by eaton). i just dont know what the best option is for me. id appreciate any info anyone could offer. thanks.

Re: info
Any of the above would work, along with a couple of other choices; the "best" option depends on some other things though.
Replace entire rear = you get the chance to upgrade your rear brakes = if you have drums or those crappy Saginaw cast-iron-caliper discs, this might be the "best", in which case a 4th gen rear and wheels might be "the best of the best of the best SIR ... heh heh .... with honors"
How do you like your gears? Does the car seem like it can't leave a traffic light enough to keep up with a Kia, but on the highway you can't keep it in 2nd gear long enough to red-line the tach without going over 100 mph? Now's the time to be thinking about that. No sense spending AHELLUVALOTTA $$$jack$$$$ now, and still being unhappy with it, and having to go back and spend EVEN MORE later.
Are your axles bad? (they usually are) If so, you need new ones anyway; no sense putting a bunch of 26-spline weenie playthings back, if you're buying a carrier anyway and a 28-spline one costs the same as a 26 and you have to buy axles anyway.... might as well do them as a package. Problem here is, a carrier, a set of axles, and a set of gears, will set you back TWICE what a 4th gen rear will.
And so forth.
More info will help shine some light into these dark corners.
