trying to find stall speed
my camaro is a 305,and i was told by po that it had a 3400 stall, but when i do stall test if i get to about 3k the tires break and burn some rubber.also have some rotating noise coming from the tqconverter area,it happens in all gears vary noisy at idle quiet at rpm over 1500,shifts perfectly threw all gears ,not noisy while crusing only at idle until i hit the gas

Re: trying to find stall speed
The only way to find the true stall of a converter is with a transbrake. The same converter behind different engines will have a different stall speed. The "rated" stall speed is only an estimate.
At WOT when it shifts, what rpm does it drop back to? Should be the same in all gears. A replay tach really helps to watch it.

Also, there are 2 common ratings for stall. Flash, and footbrake. Your footbrake is obviously around 3000. To find your flash stall, go somewhere and stop on a deserted road. Keep your left foot out of the picture. Take your right foot off the brake pedal, then immediately floor the go pedal while watching the tach.
Whatever you have, it's more than most mild 305s need. It may be a lot of fun, or it may be annoying. If it's annoying, try a bigger number axle ratio.
But with a 3000 footbrake stall, it's ready for a really wild cam.

Try a different converter to see if the noise goes away. Look for a cracked flexplate. We can't diagnose a noise through the forum without you checking things.
