Transmission Swap

I currently have a 700r4 that is broke, ive been to a junk yard an found a nice rebuild 700r4 but its on a 4x4 blazer what exactly would i have to take off mine to make that conversion work, would i have to take the back off of my transmission and put it on the new one? Any kind of advice would be greatly apprechated, in the end I just want to know if it would be a easy swap nothing to confuseing. Thanks =]

Re: Transmission Swap

the whole tail shaft is correct, becuase 4x4s have shorter tail shafts for thier 4wd power transfer. but other than that its about it, and i also am not sure if the case allows for a tailshat housing.

Re: Transmission Swap

Hmm So it has a different case then other 700r4s? I know it goes Transmission to the converter, then a tail shaft im guessing? so i'd just get the transmission swap the parts and be fine im hopeing, i know the years work i have a 91 but its not the orignal transmission, and its broke in a couple different parts, i pulled the engine and trans not to long ago, now realizeing i need a replacement ive been tryin to find one from 88-91.. Its like a 87-88 blazer i think im hopeing its a 88, cause the newer the better i know they made slight changes year by year... Is there anyone that can give me a for sure answer if it will work or not? I was really wanting to go pull it tomarrow or wed, thur.. its only 118$ and its rebuilt so its a really good deal, how long ago it was rebuilt i have no idea, but the fluid looks like its in immaculate condition, like it was just changed.

Re: Transmission Swap

Ahh ok, so after some quick research, ive got things figured out, i tryed to research it the other day and had no luck, i more or less know what im doing on my car but not so great with the names of parts and what not. The tail shaft is different, and i would have to take everything out and convert it over to my transfer case which is part of whats broken, so in the end its not worth doing, and i'll just try and find another one, it just seemed to good considering it was rebuilt to not give it a try insted of pulling one and haveing problems somewhere down the road. Thanks for ur help problem!

Re: Transmission Swap

yea def isnt worth it as you'd have to changed the output shaft. plus the truck transmissions didn't get the upgrades the f body and corvette 700r4s got. better off sticking to the f body ones as you do run into slight but noticeable differences.
