Axle/Gears: peg leg for now
4th gen gear swap

I got a 1991 RS with a peg leg. I have been trying to find a posi with at least 3:42 gears. As alot of you know it is getting harder to find. I have ran across a couple of deals though. One is from a 1989 Iroc, but I am thinking that even though it is a posi it probably is 2:77. The other though is from a 1994. I have read the thread about it being a couple of inches longer. So my question is, can I swap in the unit and gears into my housing? If so, will the bearings and all be usable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: 4th gen gear swap

All the internals are the same from 90-02. Differentials from 82-89ish won't work because they are 26 spline axles.

Re: 4th gen gear swap

The 9 bolt will live longer and is a better design. 7 3/4 VS 7 1/2. There are still gears and posi units out there. I don't know why everyone doesn't use them. I had 500 HP and almost 600 torque on mine with 2.77 gears and could not tear it up and it had over 120.000 miles on it.
