Need Help with differential!!!
This is my first post on Third Gen but I have been reading the forums for quite some time.
I have searched on the forum as well as Google but I am unable to find anything that can help me.
I recently changed the internals of my GM 10-bolt(2.73) from my 91 Camaro for a posi-carrier with 3.42 gears from a fourth gen 10-bolt which I read on the forum the internals were the compatible.
However I have noticed that it is significantly harder for the wheels to turn in the reverse direction as well, when the wheels are jacked up the wheels will some times turn forward when the transmission (700R4) is in neutral. I have also noted a weird noise when the car is decelerating when I let off the gas. It sounds almost like pulsating noise like a fan blade spinning and the blades hitting something.
I noticed that there was a ring on the carrier for the anti-lock brakes for the fourth gen diff. I did not remove this. Could this be the problem? Or might I need the rear end to be re shimmed or is the carriers just not compatible?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Steve

I would have to say its not shimmed properly. Anytime you change gears or a carrier it needs to be set up to get the correct backlash.

I figured that was probably the case. Thanks for the reply and I'll get it shimmed up and see if that fixes the problem.
Thanks again
