What automatic tranny does the LB8 V6 have?
I have a 1985 Firebird, base model, with the LB8 2.8L V6 in it. Automatic transmission. I've been searching and haven't found a definite answer as to what the tranny is in my car. I've heard it's either the TH-700R4, or the TH-200R4. So which is it?
Also, is the shifting electronically cylinder powered or is there a linkage cable connected to a link arm that connects it to the shifter.
And, if you could tell me if it has the chevy bolt on pattern or the BOP bolt on pattern, that would be great.
Thanks

700r4, its not electric, the newer version redesignated(but internally similar, and replaced the 700r4 in the applications it was used in) is designated as 4l60-e, name varying a bit with application, first # refers to gears, the 2nd digit is L for longitudinal or T for transverse(refers to orientation of the trans/engine in the car) then the next 2 are a rating for how much torque it can take, and the E on the end tells you its electronic.
As for the 700r4 it shifts via governor, if you have ever seen a bike with an automatic(yes they do exist) they have this spinning governor type device on the rear cog set, that spins, and centripetal force pulls it out, or lets it go in, 700r4 uses something similar so far as I know and understand. The TV cable doesn't directly control shift points, it controls line pressure mainly. Idk what BOP bolt pattern is, but for the v6 3rd gens it has a 60* bellhousing/bolt pattern, the v8s have a 90* bellhousing.

I just ask because if I ever want to do an engine swap I want to know what kind of engine I'll need so I won't have to do a tranny swap too.

As far as engines that will bolt to the 700r4, chevy 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, both fwd and rwd engines will bolt to the trans. There is also the 3100, 3400, 3500, and the 3900 MIGHT, but idk if it does or not, same for that new 3.6 LLT, it MIGHT, but probably not. You're pretty much limited to the gm 60/6 line of engines as far as directly bolting to the trans, and the FWD ones require motor mount fabrication.

Haven't had a chance to look under it yet, but the car is stuck in park, and won't shift or change gears when I move the shifter, just glides right past the other positions, just making a clicking noise.
