700r taking awhile to shift

Just swapped out motors in my 89. Had the sry a$$ 305 and dropped a 350(so much happier) but i noticed that the transmission takes a lil bit longer to shift through gears. Never had a problem on the old 305 with shifting. Just put this trans in not to long ago that i picked up for a couple hundred that came out of caddy. Even on wot it would shift smooth but now it takes a higher rpm to get it through the gears and kind jerks the car as well to do it. dnt no if this is a tranny problem or not. and cruisin at 50mph i never hit od just stays in third with the rpms goin up on it. Any ideas what could cause this?

Adjust the TV cable correctly?

Did you carb this motor? If so, what did you use a TV cable from a carb or TBI 3rd gen?

Get the geometry corrector for the carb and install the linkage correctly (if swapped to carb)?

No its tbi. I never adjusted anything, I just put it all back together the same way I took it apart.

set the tv cable correctly. At first I thought my 700r wasn't going into 4th because it felt differently than my 4l60e on the 4th gen. But, at 50mph i slipped it into 3rd and it downshifted so i gather that 4th is more subtle than in the 4L

Always adjust the TV cable. Set it tight at WOT. NEVER assume it is right, otherwise you will be needing a transmission soon.

Ok so when the throttle is fully open do I just make sure the cable coming from the transmission is pulled out all the way when its connected?

Re: 700r taking awhile to shift

To set tv cable:

Push release on the side of mount (silver button inside black housing) and move tv cable sleeve (not the cable, just the housing!) all the way towards transmission (or away from throttle body). Release the button. Get inside car and push accellerator to the floor, it will make a ratchet or clicking noise at the adjuster. Voila! You are done.
