stupid 700R4's.....
i recently put a 700r4 in my truck and started it up and nothing... i put it in any gear and nothing happens. doesnt matter if i give it gas or not. the truck is up on jack stands so when i put it in gear, the tires should spin easily. it was a used trans so i didnt have high hopes but i dont know if i didnt hook something up or if the trans is just junk? its an earlier model year one. 85 i think. i didnt hook up the wires comming out of the case though. im not sure if they are for the torque converter lock up or what. i hate trans stuff!! fluid is brand new and nothing smelled burnt inside it. i pulled the pan when first put it in the truck. anyone have any ideas? is it related to those wires not being wired in or should i have gears without it?

Are you sure the converter was splined all the way into the pump before you installed?

Gotta ask, but is the torque converter bolted to the flexplate? I know it sounds dumb but I've seen that happen before.
Re: stupid 700R4's.....
yea it was bolted up. it was a pita actually because when we first bolted the case to the block we didnt line up the torque converter holes so we had to loosen up all the bolts and slide the trans back just a bit to get the pressure off enough to rotate the converter to line up the holes. im gonna try the other 700r4 i have laying around and see if its any better. this time im going to use the 6.0 flexplate and eliminate the crank spacer. hopefully it works. if i knew how to post pics or vids on here i would.

You didn't have the drive tangs on the pump properly engaged in the torque converter then. When correctly installed there's about 3/8" of clearance between the torque converter fully seated and the flexplate.
