T56 Magnum Question
I bought a T56 Magnum from D&D but now have a question. The part number is Tuet 7477 and says it's for a ls1, small block, and big block. On Tremecs site it shows that they are different transmissions for the older and the ls1 which is what I would have expected. Anyone dealt with this before so I know which engine this is actually for. I guess I need to call D&D or Tremec in the morning but I figured someone here has already dealt with this. Thanks in advance

Re: T56 Magnum Question
An LS1 input can be adapted to SB and BB with a plate and an old style bellhousing. Hence the "fits all" description.
Yours is an LS style front with 2.66 first, .63 sixth. Keep your 91 bellhousing, hydraulic and clutch/flywheel, buy an adapter plate, measure the input so you can go w/ the correct pilot and bolt it up.

Re: T56 Magnum Question
Want to be sure I understand. If I use this with an ls1 in my 91 camaro I would just get a regular ls1 bell housing. If I use with something like a ramjet 350 or lt1 then I need an adapter plate with correct pilot bushing. Is that correct? Also can you tell me who makes the adapter plate?

The adapter plate was used originally(?) used with an extra long input to adapt the "aftermarket" Borg Warner T56 to a traditional (including 3rd gen) bellhousing.

Re: T56 Magnum Question
Thanks so much for clearing that up. I am kind of a newbie to doing this stuff and have allot to learn. This is such a great forum that that!! If I don't mind spending a more would I be better off with a new bellhousing instead of the adapter plate to my old bell housing or is that just a waste of money.

Re: T56 Magnum Question
If you dont mind speending a little money, then Quick Time is worth a look. They make a bellhousing for most every T-56 swap(LT1,LS1,SBC,BBC,V-10's even Porsche tranny's), and the quality is #10 on a scale of 1-10. Its what I use for my MkIIV BBC/LS1 type and didnt requier an adapter plate(but comes with a steel scatter shield), it even made up for the added length of the LS1 input shaft without needing special pilot bearing. I use a needle bearing type but only because it has more of a tapered edge, that makes it easier to stab the tranny. They cost about $450-550. which is a little pricey for something with no moving parts, but well worth it, in my humble opinion.
