I need to replace my '88's clutch cylinders, and want to move away from the OEM plastic units, if I can. Trouble is, I can't shell out big bucks for things like Lakewood.

Here is what I have found:

Master:

• Wilwood 260-6089 - Compact Remote Reservoir - Aluminum - $47.99
• Wilwood 260-1304 - Compact Integral Reservoir - Aluminum - $49.99
• Exedy MC315 - Unknown material - $56.48

Slave:

• Exedy SC713 - Unknown material - $30.21

It appears that these take real screw-in lines, not slide-in plastic lines.
The Exedy units appear to be aluminum, but all the pictures state that the images are not vehicle-specific.

All the local parts stores seem to sell only plastic OEM replacements.

I'm real comfortable with Wilwood, but they don't make a "push" slave cylinder. Has anybody here used the Exedy parts? Are they aluminum or plastic?

 

Go to orielly's or go online to their store and get the Wagner brand slave cylinder. It is an aluminum one and you don't have to have the "heat shield" around it, just bolt it up. You will still be using the plastic line, which I cannot find by itself and I have yet to find a good replacement master cylinder, but that is what we put into my son's 86 Z-28 and it works great. Has a good bleeder valve on it too. I found both parts on RockAuto.com and they are a heck of alot cheaper than going to GM. Check it out and see what you think.

Here is a picture of it. We were blowing the ends out of the plastic ones due to the clutch fork ball backing out of the bellhousing. Check that while you are in that area of the car, just FYI. I ran the clutch fork ball back into the bellhousing with some silicone on it and it hasn't moved since.
