If you were going to swap in a LSx engine, what trans would you pick and why?

i wanna do a LM7 or LQ4 swap, with a megasquirt for tuning, and want to keep it street driven so an OD gear is necessary. the problem is the trans, i want FULL control of it (ratchet shift), but i dont want the clutch of a manual due to my wife not being able to drive stick, and insisting i cant install a manual i dont know jack about GM transmissions (coming from fords). i know the 4l60e/6l80e are electrically controlled, so that rules them out unless there's some sort of manual controller i can get? MSGPIO/Megashift apparently can control a 4l60e, but can it do a 6l80e, and does it give full control?

i plan on a boosted LM7 at this point, nothing too crazy, only lookin for maybe 400 rwhp. also, whats a good rear end for 400 rwhp?

 

400RWHP from a Boosted LSX? Yea right. You can sneeze and get 400 RWHP from these motors. You'll be closer to 500. You can mount any old style trans to these engines as well like your 700 you have now, or a 350 or 400 trans. A built 700R4 will handle 400rwhp. A good rear end could be stock if you dont race it or spend the dough on a Moser or something. I'm at 423RWHP on my LSX motor which is basically a cammed only LS2. I'm running a 1994 4L60E out of an S10 Blazer with F body tail housing and my stock 9 bolt rear.
