will this diff fit a 91 rs?
Been looking for a posi unit for the stock rear in my 91 rs has 273s, i have no intentions of changing the gears and the engines staying stock so i dont anything beefier, so i didnt realy wanna pick up a used rear end just to end up rebuilding it.
I found auburn gear differential 542041, on jegs and their site they list it for a 3.08 and down for series two carriers with 28 spline axles, which i beleive is what my rs should have.( i need to pull the codes off the diff to be positive its the orig rear end).
anyone have any expeirence with these or can see a reason they wouldnt work in a stock rear? or know of any other good units.

That is for a ten bolt... Diff.. I have that auburn in my current 4th gen diff... 95% fact you have a Aussie 9 bolt diff and not worth messing with the internal parts are completely different... And that carrier is for 3.08 gears and down to high 2 series... And a rip off at that price...

An OE in a 91 would be a 10-bolt.

Yep the car is a 10 bolt, and a series 2 carrier(sure its a non posi 2:73). just need to pull the number and make sure its the factory one to be sure its the 28 spline. from everything i can find its what should be in it too.
If you know of better priced units for a series 2 please let me know, only two i can find is auburn and moser and they have the same part number and price and the moser is listed as a auburn, so im thinking their the same.
i do know these can be had for less than what jegs list them at thou.

For a stock street car, I'd personally go for a Torsen style diff.
Torsen brand 28 spline are # 409160-9032 or GM 12471372
Eaton make a Truetrac in 26 spline.
