3.42 1st gear & 3.08 diff???
Anybody running this combination??? Manual trans/4 speed...
I'm currently running a 2.88 1st gear trans and have just taken in a 3.42 1st gear trans...Both Borg Warner Super T10's...
I'm satisfied with the 2.88, but I read a post here that a 3.42 & 3.08 go together pretty good...
I don't drag or even drive hard, and don't drive on the Freeway/Thruway long enough to make that an issue...just city driving...Lots of stops...
Any opinions??? Anyone hate their 3.42 1st gear???
I'm planning on new synchros this Fall/Winter, but only on one of them...

Re: 3.42 1st gear & 3.08 diff???
Sometimes gearing questions are well-answered by driving something similar.
Whenever I wonder whether the 2.9x first gear T5 and T56 are well-geared transmissions, I drive a 2.66 first T56 which isn't bad at all, or my friends 3.?? first S-10 T5 (which I hate because it's too wide of ratios IMO.)
If you're happy with the take-off characteristics of the 2.88 from a stop, I'd leave well enough alone; the 3.42 has the potential to feel a little more truck and less car-like.
