Dana 44 ring & pinion question

I have a 87 IROC Z with a Dana 44 rear end. Does the 10 bolt 8.5" ring & pinion gears work in these? What about the ring & pinion install kit?

TIA,
Curtis

Re: Dana 44 ring & pinion question

No.

No.

Be REAL sure it's a Dana 44 before ordering anything, since that reare never came in that car and was only available as an over-the-counter service replacement; and there are VERY few of those in existence. Specifically, be sure it's not a Borg-Warner 9-bolt, which is one of the 2 more likely things it would be, the other being the 7½" 10-bolt..

Will do. Where can I find ring & pinion gears, and install kit for it?

Re: Dana 44 ring & pinion question

Unfortunately, this was made special for GM. From what I been able to find, common things from GM & Dana will not fit this.

Re: Dana 44 ring & pinion question

AFAIK, Dana 44 internal parts fit Dana 44 rear ends; period.

Things that adapt it specifically to any given chassis are a different matter, such as axles. Stuff like R&P and bearings, shouldn't be an issue.

Note that there are 2 versions of the 44, one with C-clips and one without. If memory serves, the without type is what the F-body model used. But that shouldn't matter to things like R&P and bearings because it doesn't touch any of that.
