T5 W/C trans issue with 2nd gear.

So I took the plunge and bought a 91 firebird with the 5 speed manual trans. After reading up a little bit I found this trans is considered the world class T5.
The issue is the 2nd gear doesn't want to stay in while the clutch is being released. Once its in though it doesn't pop out. All other gears work fine without any issues.
My fear is the syncro but hoping this might be a linkage issue?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

It needs to come apart regardless. The fork / pads could be broken but that would tend to carry over to first gear. So it's probably synchro. Nothing to fear; tear it down and replace what's broken.

I don't have much experience in Manual trans so that is why its concerning. Should be a good learning experience either way.
Thanks for the tip.

more than likely, it's the "dogs" wore out on 2nd gear and 2nd gear will need replaced
