How do I choose the right speedo gear?

Hello, I recently changed my rear diff ratio from 3.08 to 3.42, I have a 1990 RS with a T5WC. I'm getting the trans rebuilt so I want to get the right speedometer gear while the shop has the trans apart. How should I go about deciding what new gear I need? (It also has 245,50,16 tires on it I'm not sure if that is the stock size or not)

Thanks!

Re: How do I choose the right speedo gear?

There are two different drive gears used on the third gens with T5. You need to make sure when rebuilt it gets the one with fewer teeth.

There are charts of what GM used. Those are attached in various threads here. I prefer to go by those.

There are stickies up top you should read. Links to various speedometer calculation formula sites are in them. Every one will recommend different gears than what GM used.
