Sometimes if I am in 3rd gear and not holding the shifter, the tranny will slip into neutral. Seems to happen most if I get after it and then let up. Also, the tranny doesn't like staying in reverse.

Need a rebuild or is there any adjustments? The only mod I know of is it has a short shift Hurst shifter.

Make sure if the Hurst has stops that the forward one is loosened up and not preventing the shifter from fully going into third.

Also, inspecting the bushing in the offset shift lever (directly under the shifter) to see if it's damaged (from being installed but not glued in) isn't a bad idea. If they're properly glued in, the stock ones last a long time. If not, they can raise up and be cut by the offset lever. The brass ones can compress from force and cause shifts to be loose.

I rebuild them if you go that route.

 

I pulled the shifter up off the tranny and all I saw was the bushing on the end of the shifter and I didn't see where there were any adjustments. Are there stop adjustments deeper inside the tranny? Reverse definitely feels like it is just not going in all the way.

 

If the bushing lifted out of the lever, that,s not good for it,s longevity. But if it's there, not demolished, Time to pull it and. fix things.
