speedo stop working/check engine light

speedo stop working/check engine light

i have an 85 camaro 305 the converter in the trans is locking and unlocking as i drive the other day the speedo stopped working and the check engine light came on. is there a conection between the two,that made the light come on?

Engine: L96 (LS) and LS-1

Transmission: auto, 6 speed

Axle/Gears: 3.42 gears for both

Yes there is a connection. There is a speed sensor on the back of your instrument cluster that tells your computer what speed your at and when to lock-up.

If the speedo has stopped working, I assume the car's setting a code 24 (VSS), which would make the light come on.
