engine and back axel

hello everybody
i am currently on the look out for my summer project
and of course it will be a third gen Irock-z
now before i make the purchase i have a few questions
is there a way to tell if the car has posi or no
just by looking at it or the only way is to jack it up and spin the wheels ?

also how can i know for sure if the engine is a 305 or 350
any distinctive features to look for ?

i want to make sure the one i get has a posi and a 350 in it

thank you in advance
hopefully in the next months i will post pictures of the project at hand

Jacking it up and spinning the wheels is the easiest way. Puling the diff cover off for a visual inspection is the best.

Look at all SBC engines sizes and they all look the same externally. Casting numbers are the best way to tell if it's a 4" bore block used for the 350 or if it's the smaller bore block used for the 305. Far to many people have purchased a car because the previous owner claimed it was a 350 only to find out it's a 305. Suffix code numbers can tell if the engine is original or not.

Re: engine and back axel

casting numbers should be on the top/back of the block, driver side, directly behind the head
