Bellhousing Conversion
Bellhousing Conversion
Hear is a quick question for thought. I have searched around a little bit and found no answers, so here goes: Would it be possible to take a hydro bell housing and convert it for use with a manual clutch? I would suspect all that you would have to do is chop off the slave cylinder ear and cut a window in the bellhousing for the clutch fork to stick through. I would assume that the fork pivot is in the same place, unless it's moved to provide more/less mechanical advantage. I have everything I need to swap my auto over to 5 speed accept for a bellhousing, I have found several hydros for cheap, manuals seem to bring a pretty good buck around here.
Look forward to your thoughts, please feel free to tell me if I am being an idiot.

Re: Bellhousing Conversion
Why would you want to downgrade like that from a system THAT WORKS to the old inferior Stone Age crap that doesn't work NEAR as well and always fails?
The answer to that question might help illuminate the correct path forward, instead of starting in the middle of some unknown exercise somewhere.

Re: Bellhousing Conversion
Well for starters, I have everything I need for the manual clutch swap. And my long tube stainless headers will not work with the hydro setup due to the position of the slave. Surely I would prefer hyro, I am actually looking into a quartermaster release bearing as we speak, would solve all my problems...
Re: Bellhousing Conversion
Well the clutch fork comes out at a different location on the two bells, so the ballstud will be in a different location. So I answered my own question. Going to go the Quartermaster route.

No it doesn't. The fork ballstud is moved, however.
You may have looked at something besides a thirdgen bellhousing.
I have 82, 83 and 84-92 V8 bellhousings. Pm me if you want a mechanical one.

Re: Bellhousing Conversion
Ok, I didn't physically look at one to compare, I just kinda assumed. I have a Lakewood scattershield I think I am going to try to use, It's not the F-body version but I am going to redrill it to fit the T-5. And I am going to go with the Quartermaster slave cylinder. This saves me any header modification, even if I went with the manual clutch I would have to re-rout a tube a little.

I'm running an aluminum flywheel, and although the odds of it breaking are slim, better safe than sorry.
