Need honest opinion on 9-bolt!
I just purchased the parts to do a ls1 rear brake swap on my 87 camaro. I pulled the diff cover because i know my posi unit is shot. come to find out I have the Bw 9 bolt in the car. The cones are bottomed out. I was looking at prices on 9-bolt.com and I need some feedback.
I really have no issues with taking my time and re-building the rear on this car, its a weekend car for me, so time is no issue (and currently unregistered haha).
I need some opinions on wether to spend the ~$1000 on a rebuild kit and 3:73 gears for this rear VS buying a used lower milage 10-bolt with the 3:73's already installed and doing bearings and seals and just putting a locker in it.
the prices may come out about the same, but I will have the parts availability of the 10-bolt. and with the locker I wont have to worry about clutch packs etc. I have no issue with welding the axle tubes and doing other various upgrades down the road. the car may see the strip a few times this year, but mainly street use a few times a week, no snow. I eventually want to do some more power adders, but I dont really see numbers north of 500hp/tq.
opinions on either route?
