max RPM Shift point

Hi all,

Got to visit my engine at the builder's on saturday. He's almost done now. Just needs to put the heads on and size/install the rods and she's all mine. Can't wait to get her home and start the tear down of my engine bay and get my hands dirty again. At some point soon the transmission will have to be seperated and the torque converter will be set aside to make room for something a little more up to the task.

<Enter Dave from Yank Converters>

I emailed him today and asked him to recommend a good stall for my setup and this is how the conversation went:

Hello Dave,

My name is Rob and I would like to buy a YANK converter sometime soon. I believe I would be happiest with the SS4000 but wanted to know if the SS3600 would be better choice. I have a 1987 Camaro IROC with a rebuilt 357ci SBC. It is married to a professionally rebuilt 700r4 w/ a shift kit, improved clutches and a 2-3 corvette servo. I am running a Lunati 30142 hyd. flat tappet w/ a Holley Stealth Ram and World Sportman II heads. 3650 lbs w/ driver

This was pulled from the Holley website and I think it will be similar to what my setup will be putting out for power and performance:

MPI3008 355 small block Chevy, 30 lb./hr injectors, Stealth Ram intake, 58mm throttle body, 20 degree Holley heads,
Lunati 30142 cam (235/245 @ .050, .507/.534, 112 LC), 9.5:1 compression, 43 PSI fuel pressure, 418 HP @
5500 RPM, 422 ft./lbs. @ 4700 RP

Lunati recommends a 3200-3600 rpm stall http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1833 but some other people have commented that a 4000 would feel and perform much better. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...you-think.html

The car currently has a 3.23 LSD w/ 245/50 R-16 street radials which I will be keeping for a little while longer until I'm ready to ugrade to a better rear-end. I will then go with 3.73 gears and 255 ET streets. I will however be adding an adjustable torque arm,LCA's, and panhard bar right away for improved planting of power. I may add a 150 shot down the road too.

The car is strictly for weekend driving in sunny weather but will see the strip 1-2 times per season. MPG is only a minor concern. Mid 11's w/ great streetablity is my end goal.

I also wanted to know if this fleplate will bolt up to your converter? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCA-FP-350L-153/

Thanks and I will purchase once I hear back

I thought I had provided him with all the information he could ever need and sizing a decent part would be a breeze. Then he asked this:

Rob what will your max shift rpm be set up at?

The honest answer is I have no idea!!

Could someone please tell me what my max shift rpm would/should be?
