junk yard ford 9 in build
I wanted to go the fabbed way. Stay tuned for pics
$ spent so far
$100 for housing 3rd member and 1 useless 28 spline axle from local junk yard
$3 for sand blasting and painting. (I have my own sandblaster)
$350 price "quoted" for narrowing, welding brakets from 10 bolt and fabbing a torque arm mount from the local chassis fabrication and hotrod shop.

Re: junk yard ford 9 in build
the ford 28 spine axles are plenty strong. yes they can be made bigger. but i my self have run into the 9's on 28 spine axles and never hurt anything.(back in my ford days) even when i orderd my aftermarket rear end i only uped to 31 spline. (can get one anystate anyplace)
yes alot of guys go bigger. but it's only a size thing
try getting a a 35 spline on a sunday at 10am.

on a side note im sure youll get sombody saying. you will need 35/40 spline to run in the 9's
most of your aftermarket parts like a true Detryt locker can be orderd. in any of the 28/31/35/40/
spine setups. and most of your aftermarket rear end makers will go with the 31 and up. has the parts do last longer. with the 6 to700 hp guys.. just a ye we know thing.

The plan is to have a 10 have sec streetable car with my 385 and a dose of nitrous
Thanks alot that may save me some $ in the long run BC I would have to convert my third member to accept 31 spline

go to eaby look up Nascar Parts. look under fireBottel/or parts you will see alot of 9"third members with lockers and 4.11/any gear set ya want.
with top name brand parts. most brand new or close to it. with 31 spline
for under $700 bolt in. take your axles out and put a tape to them and order your parts.. this saves you about $500+ right at the start.
all will have Daytona support
N cases. 31 spline Lockers.
w/ billet yokes and be bolt in
try buying that anyplace for$700
