GM 12 bolt in a 91 Trans AM
I'm sure this has been a thread before but could not locate it anywhere. Does anyone make a bracket that allows you to bolt the factory torque arm to a GM 12 bolt? I have a 12 bolt out of a Chevelle that is the same track width as my factory 10 bolt (from an 86 Camaro). I was planning on cutting off the coils spring, control arm and pan hard brackets and then welding them on the 12 bolt I have. The problem I see with this is the torque arm. I know Currie make a bracket for a Ford 9" to *82-92 F body but haven't seen anything for a 12 bolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
Forgot to mention this is going into a 91 Trans Am; in case it makes a difference.

Not without a lot of fabrication work. The cast housing of the 12 bolt isn't good to weld some sort of mount onto. You really need to heat up cast with a torch before welding to it and then you risk distorting the casting for the bearings. A "bolt on" mount bracket isn't really strong enough for the stresses placed on it. If you don't think you're going to stress it that much then a 10 bolt will be fine but chances are you want to install a 12 bolt because you're going to abuse the 10 bolt.
If you want a 12 bolt, you'll need to buy a direct bolt in one from places like Strange. Trying to adapt a 12 bolt from some other vehicle wont be easy.
The Currie bracket for a 9" is easy because the mounts are easily welded to the steel housing. The 12 bolts cast housing makes that very difficult to do to be safe.

We just had a thread last week, though it may have been in the sub-forum for fabrication. Detroit Speed makes a 12-bolt torque arm setup for '67-'69 camaros, you may be able to adapt that. I expect it is strong enough for whatever a stock 12-bolt housing can survive.

Do you have a link to that or the thread? Thanks, Mike
