"rebuilt" 700r4 wont shift after rebuild.kinda of long
i just got around to converting my 85 back to a auto trans. the 700r4 was rebuilt by me with the help of my instructor and some students in community college.part way through reassembly i had to leave school, due to medical reasons. i was told that while on the dyno the trans had high line pressure problems, did not respond to tv actuation and would not shift. they tore into it a few times, and i was told that the trans was fixed. 3 years later, here i am with a trans installed and it wont shift out of 1st. it has reverse and 1st gear only. the tv cable is new and correctly adjusted. also a transgo shift kit was installed. any suggestions? thanks

after starting this thread, i went back out to mess with the trans. moved the adjustment on the tv cable, drove the car. now it shifts! 1-2 shift is close to right, between 2-3 shifts the rpm flare up a bit then it shifts. can some one give me the correct tv cable adj. procedure. thanks

easiest thing to check would be the governor. pull it out and make sure the gear is in good condition and the valve moves freely with the movement of the weights. most other stuff requires opening the unit back up if for nothing else then to check the valve body and make sure all aspects of the shift kit were installed correctly.
or you could just need to adjust the tv cable again...lol. possible the throttle valve in the vb was slightly stuck
should either be in the stickies or in the tech articles on the home page.
