Grinding noise when clutch is engaged.

I recently just purchased an 88 camaro with a 5-speed. The motor runs great. However, there is a grinding noise when I accelerate throughout the first two gears. On top of that, every now and then it seems the clutch will "grab". I will be driving along, and all of a sudden the car will start buckling and shuddering. Feels like I'm trying to teach an 11-year old to drive stick. The only way to stop the grabbing and bucking once it starts is to press the clutch back in. Any ideas what is causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated I don't know much about clutches.
