tv cable

well i just got my car all together and am trying to fine tune the carb. i am unable to do so as i have no control over the shifts. the tv cable is not hooked up, and when in first it will shift itself immediately out. i just want to have full control of the shifts for when im at the track.

do i need the governor kit and the relocation bracket? will this fix my issues and is there any downfall to not having it hooked up? will it hurt my trans?

i ran this setup for several thousand miles without issue and i had full control of shifts. it just happened after the motor swap.

thanks for the help,
justin

edit:fixed

Re: detent cable

The TV cable (not a detent cable) must be connected.

Re: tv cable

You drove several thousand miles without the TV cable connected? You are lucky your transmission is still OK. The TV cable controls the line pressure, without it the pressure is really low and will cause slippage and eventual burning up of clutches etc. Put the cable on and adjust it correctly. There are plenty of posts on this site to explain how to do this.

Re: tv cable

i have maybe 25 miles on the current trans, previous trans lost first gear. but if i cant get it to hold shifts after this ill just swap to a 350 or 400 with a brake and manual valve body

Hard to say...

Go here for a detailed guide to your next decision. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_costs

Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd be headed to the junkyard in the morning.

Re: tv cable

dad said something about putting a cable laying around on it....

i will be picking up a new cable tomorrow just to make sure its not the cable. do i need one for a 350 or 305?

from there i will most likely just cut it and weld it back another inch or so. depending on if the cable fixes it.

Re: tv cable

Yes. I's stay away from 6-cyl stuff.

I'd suggest getting the cable for a carbed one; although I don't think it's going to matter as long as that T-350 kickdown bracket is on there instead of a 700 TV cable bracket.

A stock bracket will be too far forward, the primary throttle shaft is farther back on a Holley than on a Qjet. It'll need a Holley-and-700R4-specific bracket.

Sure that's not a TPI cable?

Re: tv cable

i got the new tv cable installed and it was the right one this time. it fits great, but it still shifts itslef out of first gear.

i put the governor kit it in, i put the lightest spring/weight combo on both sides. it now wont shift out of first even if i shift it manually, until i hit 5500 and then it will let me. so ill try the medium weights/springs next and go from there.
