T5 shifter goes up and down vetically

I did a hard acceleration and noticed from first to second my shifter was real funny, rising a couple inches and back down. Now does it while driving and under braking. Trans mount is new and looks fine. Torque arm one doesn't look so great but again, none of this happened until I punched it. Goes into every gear just fine and have not tried punching it since. What I break?

Re: T5 shifter goes up and down vetically

I would guess trans mount also but if it is relatively new I might check to see if motor mounts are bad also causing extra stress on the tranny mount. Admittedly they are enclosed and shouldn't allow much movement but I have seen some strange things happen.
It could have been a defective mount to begin with also.
Good luck.

If you consider a poly replacement, you might peruse the following info:

Re: T5 shifter goes up and down vetically

Went ahead and replaced it with a cheapie just to feel safer for the time being. Turned out the other one had ripped itself in half but you could only tell by removing it. Guess it goes to show to not always assume that a brand new trans mount can't go bad. I will be upgrading to a poly now. Thanks guys.
