mushy shifts

my trans likes to take too long to shift itself ,its like when it shifts from second to third and between third and fourth. it lags .its a 700-r-4 .i changed the fluid and filter and added two bottles of lucas trans conditioner, which helped a lot ,however i would like it to shift more abruptly. does anyone know how to accomplish this without a total rebuild?? ive heard something about "corvette servo assembly" and "valve body tinkering" am i doomed ? should i leave it alone and just shift it manually

Re: mushy shifts

I believe you can buy and install a shift kit that will take care of that problem.

Re: mushy shifts

Most shift kits won't include the Corvette servo, and the purpose of that servo is to increase the holding ability of second gear. This sometimes has the side effect of making the 1-2 upshift feel more aggressive. I'm in the minority who love the B&M kit, and for fact it includes at least 1 upgrade that the TCI doesn't, and both raise the line pressure, which helps, but TransGo fails to do so, plus they cost twice as much, making their kit a rip-off. So get the B&M. The B&M kit includes 2 stages, HD and street/strip. If you combine the S/S with the servo, it will give you tire-chirping 1-2 upshifts above about 1/2 throttle. This is hard on u-joints, and increases the risk of traffic tickets. But for me it never killed a 700R-4. I've killed several, but never this way.
