Upgrading a T5?
Upgrading a T5?
Ok so I have an 89 gta with a 350 tpi. Now of course it has a 700r4 but I want a stick shift!!
Now I was thinking of a t56 swap but up here in central Canada (ya ya look no we do not have pet polar bears and we have had electricity since 1998) t56's are rare and when they do come up people want $2500+ so that's out of the question so I was thinking what about an upgraded T5?
Now The 350 will never have anything crazy done to it. At most a decent exhaust system, a cam and some tpi porting so I don't need much just something with a clutch and a stick!!

Re: Upgrading a T5?
Sure... just get one that's been upgraded to a T-56.
If there's no T-56s where you are, go someplace else to find one. And before you complain about "costs too much", do the ACTUAL math on what it would take to drive a few miles.
I'm reminded of an "I Love Lucy" episode where she lost her contact and is crawling around on the living room floor, and Ricky asks her something like "are you sure you lost it in here"; and she replies that no, she actually lost it in the bedroom, but she's looking in the LR because it's easier.
Don't be like Lucy. Search where the targets are, not where YOU are.

Re: Upgrading a T5?
I've been looking all over western and central Canada. I live in Calgary Alberta. The closest one to me right now under $2500 is in Richmond Hill, ON!! That's 3300km or about 2000 miles away so that's about a 3 day drive both ways. Now if I drive my truck down there that's about $1300 in gas round trip so the guy wants $1400 for it so that means $2700 not including food and I would have to sleep in my truck that's a lil more than I'm will to go through lol

Re: Upgrading a T5?
A guy in Dayton, OH is selling a complete T5 with everything needed to swap for $600. He says in the ad it was from a 1992 350 TPI car. I can't verify that as I have been told that didn't exist but its worth a check. Dayton Craigslist.
I don't know him. Just thought I would point it out to you. If I was up to the task of a swap I would go for it but I am not. LOL.
