I just rebuilt my first auto transmission. One of the valve body gaskets I put in was for a valve body without the aux valve and one was with aux valve. Needless to say that nothing worked right. I drove the vehicle about 20 miles with a hard 1-2 shift at 25mph and hard 2-3 shift at 45mph. When I stopped at stop sign and started going again tranny was still in 3rd gear. Manually shifted to 1st and back to D and shifted as before. Again stopped and started again after reach 3rd and still in 3rd after take off. Pulled pan and valve body. Found oil was metallic and wrong gasket. Cleaned valve body, flushed tranny replaced gaskets with proper ones and adjusted tv cable. Drove vehicle and had all gears, however the 1-2 shift was almost very early about 5-7 mph. 2-3 shift was at about 40mph all with very soft but quick shift at part throttle. Almost the same under half to 3/4 throttle except tranny in all gears. TV cable adj is all the way in towards the firewall which should give a later and firmer shift but not. Read about the short spring syndrome. Any help please. I'm desperate.
