Axle swap from 86 Z28 to 88 SC
Axle swap from 86 Z28 to 88 SC
So I'm in the middle of doing a restoration on my 86 Z28 and I want to redo the rear on it to handle the increased power I eventually want to put in it.
In the mean time I'm putting the project on hold to get my old high school 88 SC v6 back on the road as my daily driver, but it needs axles.
So I don't want to swap the rears or anything because I want to keep the 3.42 ratio in the 88 rear so I wanted to check before I tear them apart that the axles from the 86 will go into the 88 without any issues.
Any info is greatly appreciated. From what I've read I believe it should, but wanted to ask someone with more experience than I have with rears.

Re: Axle swap from 86 Z28 to 88 SC
The 86 had 26 spline axles, if the 88 axle carrier is a 26 spline carrier, then it will work. If the 88 carrier is a 28 spline carrier, then it will not fit. IIRC, only in 1989 did they upgrade to 28 spline axles. Is the 88 differential stock for that car?

Yes, everything on the 88 is stock. I'm only the second owner and the first guy didn't change anything. So from what you've mentioned I shouldn't have an issue.
Thanks for the help
