t5 electronic speed sensor

i just bought a 82 z28 and the original transmission has been replaced. the speedo wasnt working so i figured it was the cable. i went to change it and found that the trans has an electronic speedo sensor instead of the mechanical. i went to parts store and they coundnt find a plug to hook up to the speed sensor. i was just wondering if anybody had any clue or had any ideas how to find one. i dont kno what the trans was originally in. also i need to get a speedo to work with it, any suggestions??t5 electronic speed sensor-speedo.jpg

Welcome to TGO, pavlick.

Remove the electronic VSS from the trans and replace it with the correct sleeve and gearing. You can probably find what you want in the following site (though you don't mention whether the trans is manual or automatic):

The pic "appears" to be for the back-up lights.

Re: t5 electronic speed sensor

thats the reverse light connection, not the speed sensor, thats back further, almost at the very back of the trans on the tail shaft. Its about 2" round and has a retaining bolt and "V" shaped retaining clip bolting it to the trans, thats if its an electric sender. If its mechancical, it will still have the retainer, but it will be only about 1" round if that.

what kind of gauge do you have? if its stock, its cable driven. Sop you need to get find the cable or get a new one.

i still have the stock gauge which is mechanical but according to the guy i bought it from, the new trans is set up for electronic. so i kno im going to need a new gauge to work with the trans. and the trans is manual. what year camaros, if any, came with an electronic speedo?

Doesn't matter that the speedo is currently electronic. The speedo cable and VSS occupy the same 'hole' in the tail shaft. Remove the VSS which should have a purple and yellow wire on it, IIRC. Install the mechanical parts I mention above, secure the speedo housing, screw the cable in place and you're good. I suspect that you'll have to swap drive and/or driven gears, however, to make the speedo read correctly.

BTW, the electric gauges started in 90, so the cluster and gauge shape is entirely different than your 82. Without significant modification, the 90+ won't work.
