Location of the breather on a 5 speed transmission

Looking for the location of the breather on a 5 speed transmission. Have fluid coming out if the top if the shifter. some of my friends say that my breather might be plugged. Was wondering if anyone knew the exact location of it. It came out of a 1984 pontiac firebird.

Not aware of a breather. Are you certain you simply overfilled the trans?

Thanks, jmd. The piece just doesn't ring a bell.

Your tube might be shorter with the vent a little less distance up the bellhousing. Longer ones are easier to recall due to getting in the way.
That's an 86 shift rail cover on an 88 trans. so I'm not sure which years varied on the length.

The older ones just had a little short stub, maybe an inch tall, in that spot.

Somebody might have broken it off, not known what is was for, and plugged it with silicone or something.

Ok I did end up finding it. Its the short stubby type. Is there and way that could be plugged? If so how does that come out?
