Shifting Auto W/O a Key.

Anyone know how i can make my shifter switch gears without the key in the ignition? I just bought a 90 RS V6 auto. Probably has the 700r4 if that matters. But i bought it for cheap without keys and dont wanna buy a key yet ($150 I dont have it right now). I got it started by just sliding the plastic piece on top of the steering column but i cant shift into gear now.

Thanks guys. Cant believe ive never owned an auto with the shifter in the center console. Ive always had a stick or an auto with it on the column.
