I'm having a leak from the dipstick grommet. I can't remember if it is easier to seat the grommet with the oil pan off - or if valve bodies/electronics are in the way (have 4L65e). Don't want to drop the pan needlessly . Anyone remember, or have tips to cure this leak?

Why would the pan have to come off?

 

To verify that the grommet seals the bottom edge inside

 

It doesn't seal the bottom edge.

 

Ok, I'll get a new grommet and push it down in.
I used the old one and dipstick from 700R4.

 

If I remember correctly trans grommet is the same for both 700r4 and 4L60E
