car shifts out of passing gear too soon.need advice please.

Hello. I have a carbureted setup on my 350.And i noticed that when i floor the pedal,My car will shift into passing gear,But it does not seem to stay there long enouph. It will only stay in passing gear for maybe 3 or 4 seconds ,before it will shift back up.It wont wind out the passing gear like it should. Any ideas what would cause this? and any possible remedies for it? Everything seems to be running great,,its just seems like something is not set up right somewhere..Thank you very much for any helpful replies.

Have you tried readjusting the throttle cable that runs to the transmission?

I have not tried that.Im not sure how to go about performing a re adjustment.I can see where the cable is attached on my carb, but i have no clue as to wich way or how far to adjust it.Being that I have never performed this procedure before,I am not sure of its level of difficulty.I really would like to try it.Is it complicated to do?..thanks for your reply.

Level of difficulty = Beginner.

Thanks to the above mentioned suggestions and links. I did follow the instructions for this procedure this morning,,and have since been enjoying the day laying stripps of rubber on the roads when/where possible...I CANNOT believe what a big difference something like that can can make! I still however have 1 more issue to work out now.if i am cruising at a high rate of speed(like 60 or 70 mph) and i floor it..the engine will rev,,but it will not seem to catch the gear.I plan on getting a new screen in tomorrow in hopes that the problem may lie there.,,but in any event,,the help from those above was implemented and wow! i have sooo much more power now...thank you guys.

Re: car shifts out of passing gear too soon.need advice please.

and i noticed today,,that the previouse owner who installed the carb,,did not have the correct bracket installed.(the bracket that holds the cable slider assembly)..so instead of the cable lining up "straight" from carb to bracket,,the cable is angled,,going to the left from its secured position on the throttle toward the cable slider bracket...i know this could not have been helping the issue. i was told it would not hurt anything,,but i have a feeling that suspects otherwise...ps ..the bracket is still not correct yet,as i have to order one that fits from somwhere. Does anyone think this "angled cable" configuration i currently have..is contributing significantly to my slipping problems i mentioned? its not severe(like 45 degrees) but it agles to the left about a half inch from where it would be if it were "straight" thanks in advance
