the clutch tool might not have it lined up whit the pilot bearing. the trans will slide into the clutch but will sit about half a inch away from the bell housing

Have someone step on the clutch while you push it in.

this.. if you used the craptastical plastic alignment tool that came with the clutch kit, then you will never get it lined up.. the advice to have someone push in the clutch while you slide the trans forward is good..

the plastic tool works if you know how to use it.
wobble it up and down
stop about in the middle; maybe a tiny bit higher
THEN tighten the pressure plate bolts.

by the way, 86 engines weren't two-piece rear main seal and their cranks are not a different length.

Takes practice to get it right. Most guys do one or two clutch jobs in a lifetime.

I haven't done a conversion in a while, but if I recall loosen the thrue bolt on the pedals. Push them up into place over the brake booster bolts and tighten. then you can get those stupid arms in place to the Ubolt for the clutch master.

Now, I've always found that the carpet had the cut-outs for the big center hole and two bolt holes for the clutch master. A drill (5/16" or 3/8") bit and a body saw usually worked best from under the dash.

Would the carpet have these holes as well if it is a automatic car cause i dont remember seeing any other holes under the dash just the one for the brake master cylinder when i removed the auto pedal an bracket

my 86 had the perforations in the insulation under the carpet. Its not a good idea to soley use them for alignment, its best to bolt the pedals in, let the support feet that come down sit against the firewall, and use them to locate the oval hole for the master cylinder

the brake booster does not have to come out. Just remove the 4 nuts under teh dash, disconnect the brake pedal clip, wiring, and the one upper bolt thats going into the bottom of the dash and it will come out. Reverse the process to install the new pedal assebly
