troque conveter stall

I know this is talked about alot on here but I couldn't find the eact answer to my question. I have an 89 camaro with your basic bolt ons (headers, full exhaust, k&n filters, a chip). My trans needs rebuilt and I want to put a stall conveter in it since it will be out anyway. My question is will a 2600 stall be to much for a pretty much stock car? I do plan to someday build the motor with bigger cam, heads, intake ect. but who know when and if that will happen. any input would be much appriciated. Thanks

Re: troque conveter stall

2600 RPM should be fine. I had my 2400 RPM on my 350 TPI with bolt-ons. It was great other than having issues pulling traction with street tires on the street. Ramps and things were kind of a pain too.

Remember converters come in lockup, non-lockup, and different sizes. The cheaper ones are just off the shelf so it's kinda a grab bag if they'll pull the true "flash speed" the company has advertised. More torque applied the higher the "flash speed".

i think it will be fine. its usually a good idea to change the converter anyway if your getting your tranny rebuilt.

Thanks guys thats kinda what I was hoping to hear. How much difference would there between a 2400 and a 2600, or between a 2200 to 2600?

What brand of converter did you have?

Don't bother with a 2200. Stock is about 1600 RPM stall. Go for the 2600 right off the bat. Or even a 2800. These are still well within the realm of easy to live with, mild amounts of heat to deal with.
