700r4 questions. please help
I picked up a 86 trans am, that somebody had the idea to swap to carb. That's another story for a different post, lets just say it had many issues what I have been fixing and addressing over the last couple weeks, its been a learning experience.
It has a 7004 r4, and now I'm down to getting to the transmission TV cable stuff. I'm not sure if the carb bracket is correct. It mounts the tv and throttle cable on a bracket that is bolted to the back two carb mounting bolts.
From what I've learned so far, full throttle should mean cable is pulled out all the way, and its good that way, the cable moves at same time as the car part throttle.
I drove the car home 100 miles and it seemed to shift nice and firm, part throttle shifts were at 2500 in all the gears. Fluid is bright red, seems fresh.
I wasn't worried until I got into reading all about the geometry of the cable, now I'm worried. Should I be?
Can I just pull the cable all the way out and leave it (unhooked from carb, but stretched to max maybe held in place by vice grips or something?) To keep line pressure high enough not to worry about cooking the trans?
Im about ready to drive the car and dont want to get a week out of it and have to fix the trans, OR should it be fine as it sits?
How about a manual valve body? to eliminate the tv cable?

To do it properly ( and easiest ) you should be using a TV cable and bracket ( aftermarket ? ) from a carb car T700 ;
