is it a posi?

So I apparently am not sure what this is. Part number is 14094386, serial number is 20835. It did say the ratio was 3.27 and here is a picture to boot. Can you guys identify this? I couldn't find any info on it what so ever. Much thanks.

Re: is it a posi?

That's a 9-bolt.

Yes it is, or at least was at one time, a posi. No guarantees at its current age.

Re: is it a posi?

When I leave one tire on the ground I can't rotate the tire that's in the air at all. With both tires in the air in gear they rotate in opposite direction but there is a lot of resistance. More so then with a open diff (my 87 has an open diff this one is from an 85). In neutral I can rotate one and the other doesn't move. Are these good signs. I hope so. Picked up this parts car for 325. kinda happy about the posi if its still good. Down side it has drum brakes. Up side again its a 5 speed. By the way how can I tell if its a world class without taking it apart?

Re: is it a posi?

There is a metal tag bolted to the bottom of the tailhousing on the tranny. The tag has a code on it that will identify exactly what you have. NO other codes, case number or anything else will identify what you have since the same case was used for both NWC and WC. Get the code off that tag and scroll to the bottom of this page at the website provided and it will tell you. http://www.5speeds.com/t5/ Most WC t5's were starting to be used in the camaros and firebirds in 1988.
