Shift Issues on 1990 Camaro RS 305 TBI w/ 700r4
Shift Issues on 1990 Camaro RS 305 TBI w/ 700r4
I have an all original 1990 Camaro RS. It has approximately 110,000 miles on it. When leaving a stop light yesterday, I pulled the gear shifter out of overdrive and down into drive before gouging it a little leaving the light. Afterwards, I thought I felt it shift "funny." I pulled over, checked the fluid, noted that fluid level was good, and then drove the car to see what was going on. It will shift from first to second, but will not shift in to third unless I shower down on it and red line it. When it does shift....it shifts hard....no drag or anything.....shifts immediately. It will not shift in to overdrive at all. Manual shifting does not affect this. Operates the same way regardless. The fluid is still pink and unburned and has no burned smell to it. I noticed ONLY once that the trans was slow to downshift when stopping at a light....but since then it has downshifted fine. When driving the car on the highway, when I let off the accelerator, the RPM fall back to idling RPM. Like it's just free wheeling.....but when I give it gas again....it pulls fine and there is no shudder or slippage felt. PLEASE....if you can give me a hand on this....I'd really appreciate any input. I thought perhaps I had a bad shift solenoid, and after checking on it....think that the only solenoid in the trans is the TCC. Not sure if this is the issue or not. Hate to drop the pan and change it if this isn't the problem.
Found stuff online about adjustment of TV cable. Made the described adjustments and test drove. Shifts hard at about 3200 RPM from first to second...then fine from second to third (just under 3000RPM....still no overdrive. Noticed when just putting it in gear from park (even reverse)....the "jerk" when the trans engages is much harder than it used to be. Please guys....really could use some ideas. The OD not working makes since from what I've read about the TCC, but not the hard shifting in the other gears. Hate to change it and it not fix the problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
