nwc t-5 leaking
ok so its from a 86 firebird v8 and i have been using atf b/c thats what the repair books and shops and part stores are telling me, however looking around online it looks like im suppose to use gear oil so which one is it? atf or gear oil, and if gear oil what weight?
as for the leaking would useing gear oil instead of atf stop it till i can finally get a rebuild kit? the part it is leaking from appears to be the front... umm bearing cap?(its the cap looking thing that by looking at it you can tell if its wc or nwc, below the input staff) the tail staff is dry, the input staff appears dry but around the cap is broken rtv sealent and fresh atf fuild. so now the question is can i remove the sealent and put fresh rtv sealent or replace the seal with out taking it all apart to stop the leaking?

Re: nwc t-5 leaking
If it is leaking there the case is stretched and is just about toast. The reason the T5 is so weak is the case is weak. When you put any power into them the main gear pushes the counter shaft away from the main shaft. And since the case is weak is ovals the holes causing it to leak. Basically once it starts leaking it's toast and no rebuild kit will fix it as the case will just continue to stretch.
As for the ATF gear oil thing that has been the source of a lot of different opinions over the years. The WC T5 can only run ATF. The non WC T5 can run either.
