Pointers on junkyard picking... Driveshaft and rear ends

Looking to find a driveshaft (aluminum or steel) and a 9 bolt rear end.....maybe even a 10 bolt...at a junkyard

Can I have some pointers on what to look for when it comes to quality? I understand you never really know what you're buying until its actually tested but is there some things I can look for to have a good shot at success?

I know the big thing with driveshafts is looking for dents/bending... But it's not always very easy to see with the naked eye....

Rear ends, is there something to look for?

Is there a particular driveshaft for a 9 bolt ? Or 10 bolt? Does it matter ?

Thanks
Chuck

Aside from obvious problems, make sure that none of the balance weights are missing. You can usually see the small square mark where the weight is missing. Even if a weight is missing you can have the shaft rebalanced.

The drive shaft is interchangeable between, say, all 85+ cars.

Look for '90 - '92 V6 cars. Usually not enough HP to tear up the rear, and the ratios are nice.

The automatic cars have a 3.23 rear ratio. While the stick cars have the 3.42 ratio. Both have the larger 28 spline axles. Doubtful that you'll find one with a posi or disc brakes though.

And being that the cars are going on in the years, double check that the rear is what it should be. It may have been swapped at some point.
