Re: Identify this diff?
So is it safe to assume that this will hold up to my V6 better than the previously killed Auburn at the strip?

^^ Looks like you're right, it's an Auburn. I found a pic on Jegs that confirms it..
Now to contact them and see what the stampings show it is..

Yup, it's an Auburn; a stock one, at that. 2 series. Pretty much, the dung.
What difference does it make "what it is"? That is, what would you do with that info, if you had it? I can tell you Auburn is among the least helpful companies there is, when it comes to maintaining their existing customer product base; more than likely they won't tell you anything you don't already know. Maybe there's some other way of finding out what you need to know?

Re: Identify this diff?
4.10
sofakingdom, I had noticed that they have some 30 spline units and a few others on Jegs. I was hoping just to get total confirmation from them on the diff specs. 26 vs 28 spline, etc...
The numbers I have are partially covered up by the ring gear, the lady from Auburn was nice but said that i needed the rest of the numbers for her to help.

Re: Identify this diff?
30 splines would be for some other model of rear end... this model (7.5" / 7.625") only comes in 26 or 28 splines on the axles.

Re: Identify this diff?
^ that makes sense.
I was hoping not to have to take it apart but i'm waiting on a new diff cover and LCA brackets so i do have some time. The axles in my broken rear are 26 spline and in good shape, would be nice to have a spare set.
Thanks guys, it'll be nice to drive my car again at least. lol

Re: Identify this diff?
2 series vs 3 series...
Note how the 2 series ring gear flange is essentially flat on the side opposite the gear (because the flange is so close to the bearing), but the 3 series is more cone-shaped (to locate the flange closer to the center of the pinion).
Yours looks 2 series.
Re: Identify this diff?
You are going to have to see a picture of the left side of the differential before you can tell if it's a 2 or 3 series. The picture doesn't show that side well enough to tell the difference.

Re: Identify this diff?
crossing the part number on the ring gear shows it's for a 3 series.
Either way, still better than the old diff.
