91 firebird base Shaking/Vibration
Hey, names Jim. I have a 1991 Firebird Base 3.1 w/ a 700r4 transmission.
Mods: B&M shift kit, Stage 1 JET chip, MSD coil.
I was recently changing my oil pan. As all you Thirdgen guys know you have to lift the motor up approximately 3-4 inches to drop the old pan. Well, everything bolted back up perfect, the new oil pan was on and ready to get. As I was dropping the motor back down the driveshaft slid out a little bit and had gotten caught on the tail of the trans. So, my thing is now i'm getting a mean vibration on my gas pedal and seat-rear of car. Is it possible that I have bent my driveshaft and it is shaking the whole car around due to improper balance? Or is it more reasonable that I might have damaged my tail on the transmission. Note the Trans Yolk did not completely come out of tail. All the weight beared on the driveshaft. I am also getting a "Pinging" type of rod knock noise from down under. I've watched videos on YouTube of broken/bent driveshafts and it has the EXACT same sound. Any help or guidance would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hey Jim,
Could you be a little more specific on when this is happening? Neutral or drive? Certain RPM or MPH only? Try to sort through the possibilities with the process of elimination.
If you think it is still the driveshaft, I bet they charge like 10$ at the JY for a used one. Not a bad way to eliminate that piece of your problem.

At neutral it shakes a little but it's not very noticeable. More than likely just the motor running a little sluggish. In drive though I get a nasty vibration on the gas pedal while driving no matter what the RPM or MPH. It gets way worse with a higher speed. RPM range running is Aprox. 900 and still shakes at 0MPH and 900RPM. I checked the flex plate no signs of cracking. All Torque Converter bolts were tight as the day I put the trans in. So, it's unlikely that is the problem. Do you think it could be anything else but the driveshaft?
